Mubende: Police Arrest Suspect in Kidnapping and Murder of 4-Year-Old Boy

Police in Mubende District have arrested a suspect in connection with the kidnapping and killing of a four-year-old boy whose body was later recovered from a pit latrine days after he went missing.

The deceased has been identified as Daniel Kazungu, the son of Baingana Eric, a resident of Nalutete LC1, Kiyonga Parish in Kigando Sub-county, Mubende District.

According to Wamala Regional Police spokesperson Lameck Kigozi, the child was allegedly taken from his parents’ home in the early hours of March 9, 2026.

Kigozi said the father reported the disappearance at Mubende Police Station after discovering that his son was missing.

“On March 9, 2026, a report was made at Mubende Police Station by Mr Baingana Eric regarding the disappearance of his four-year-old son, Kazungu Daniel,” Kigozi said in a statement.

He explained that Baingana had woken up at around 5:00am to prepare his children for school, only to find that the child was missing from bed while the back door of the house had been left open.

Police say the suspect later contacted the family and demanded a ransom of Shs6 million in exchange for the child’s release.

According to Kigozi, the family managed to mobilize Shs1 million and sent it to the suspect, not knowing that the child had already been killed.

A joint team from the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) and the Police Flying Squad later tracked down the suspect, identified as Emmanuel Muwanguzi.

He was arrested in Kibaati, Kansanga in Makindye Division, Kampala.

Police say Muwanguzi, a resident of Kisonde LC1 in Rwigo Parish, Kibaale District, confessed to kidnapping and killing the child before dumping the body in a pit latrine belonging to Frank Rwabutariye in Nalutete.

On Friday, the police fire brigade retrieved the body from the pit latrine and transported it to Mubende Hospital mortuary.

Muwanguzi has since been charged with murder and is expected to be produced in court.
