Kampala Police Sweep Targets Criminal Hotspots! 75 Arrested in Major Operation
The Kampala Metropolitan Police recently carried out a series of well-coordinated operations across multiple zones between March 15th and 17th, 2026. The operations targeted crime hotspots in areas such as Mutungo Zone 4, Nasuti (Mukono), Mbuya I Parish, Kireku Railway Zone, Kireku Main Zone, Bweyogerere Central Zone, and Wabigalo Parish. These zones have long been associated with criminal activities, including robbery, theft, burglary, and the illegal trade in narcotic substances.
During the crackdown, police arrested 75 individuals who were suspected of engaging in various criminal acts, such as possession of narcotics and public nuisance. Several items believed to be connected to criminal activities were recovered during the operations, further strengthening the case against the suspects.
One of the more notable operations took place in Mbuya I Parish, where police discovered a garage suspected to be involved in the illegal reconditioning and altering of motorcycle parts. In total, seven motorcycles were seized from the garage, including two motorcycles without number plates, two with hidden number plates, and three with potentially fake number plates. The motorcycles are currently under investigation to determine whether they have any connection to criminal activities. Authorities are also exploring possible links between these altered bikes and other crimes in the area.
In a separate incident, a suspected thief was found dead at Masooli Cell in Kasangati after being lynched by a mob. The man, allegedly armed with a panga, was reportedly attempting to steal from poultry farms along with accomplices when he was caught by the locals. Police responded to the scene and have since begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the mob action.
All of the suspects who were arrested during the operations remain in custody, awaiting screening and possible prosecution. The police have reassured the public that such operations will continue to be carried out across Kampala in order to enhance public safety and reduce crime in the metropolitan area.
In a statement, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, emphasized the importance of these operations in curbing criminal activities and improving the security situation for residents in the capital city.
