Boat capsize on Lake Victoria leaves three dead, several missing in Mayuge

MAYUGE – Police in Mayuge District are investigating a fatal boat accident on Lake Victoria that has claimed three lives, with several other passengers still unaccounted for.

Busoga East Police spokesperson Michael Kasadha said the incident happened near Bugoto Landing Site in Bukabooli Sub-county after a boat carrying an unknown number of people overturned under circumstances that are still unclear.

The victims, whose identities have not yet been established, include an adult woman and two children. Four survivors were successfully pulled from the water.

Rescue teams, working alongside police, have since commenced a search operation to find those who are still missing.

Personnel from Mayuge Central Police Station are on-site overseeing both the rescue mission and initial inquiries into what may have caused the accident.

Authorities have called on boat operators and the public to observe safety regulations while using water transport to help prevent similar incidents.
