Kampala Officers Intercept Knife and Panga-Wielding Suspects at Night
Police at Wandegeya have arrested two young men in connection with carrying dangerous weapons while roaming the streets late at night. The suspects, identified as Omirambe Nizara, 18, and Ochom Daniel, 23, both residents of Kawempe Division in Kampala, were apprehended during a routine patrol early on 18th March 2026 at approximately 12:23 a.m.
Officers from Kikoni B Police Station were on patrol near Nyumbani Hotel when they spotted a group of about six youths. The group scattered as soon as they noticed the police, but two of them were caught. During a search, Omirambe Nizara was found carrying a panga and a knife, both concealed on his person. The dangerous weapons suggest the suspects could have posed a serious threat to public safety.
The arrested individuals are currently in custody at Wandegeya Police Division, where the authorities are holding them as investigations continue. A case file has been prepared and is awaiting submission to the Resident State Attorney for legal advice. Police are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as efforts to maintain safety in the area continue.
The swift arrest underscores the importance of regular police patrols, especially during nighttime, and highlights the ongoing commitment of law enforcement officers to prevent crime and protect residents in Kampala.
