Galatasaray have confirmed that Noa Lang will undergo surgery in Liverpool after he sustained a gruesome injury in the latter stages of their loss at Anfield.

Lang went down ten minutes from time after clashing with the advertising boards and immediately held his thumb. Blood was visible with the player having to be taken off on a stretcher after the game was halted for several minutes. Medics from both teams rushed over to treat Lang and they needed to bandage his thumb to stop the bleeding

The forward was also seen being given oxygen as he left the pitch. Lang had come on to replace Victor Osimhen, who saw his evening cut short due to injury.

Galatasaray were beaten 4-0 at Anfield, which saw them crash out of the Champions League as their 1-0 lead from the game in Istanbul was quickly undone, and the Turkish side have confirmed that Lang has gone under the knife with Osimhen potentially following.

They said: "In the first half of our away match against Liverpool in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg, our player Victor Osimhen took a blow to his arm and completed the first half, but following checks at halftime, he was not played in the second half due to the risk of a fracture in his arm.

"After the match, under the supervision of our medical team, examinations at the hospital revealed a fracture in our player's right forearm, and it was casted. A decision regarding surgery will be made in the coming days following further evaluations. In the second half of the same match, our player Noa Lang, who suffered an injury, sustained a serious cut to his right thumb, and it is planned for him to undergo surgery in Liverpool in the coming hours with the participation of our medical team."

In the first-half Osimhen had reacted angrily when it looked like he was challenged by Liverpool players on his injury whilst receiving treatment, which lasted for several minutes. It later forced him off with Lang coming on.

Ally McCoist was on commentary for TNT Sports and claimed you could tell Lang's injury was an ugly looking one. He said: "I could tell there was a significant problem because one of the girls behind there, I'm not sure if she's a photographer but you could see her face, the way she reacted."

Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk took aim at referee Szymon Marciniak, who was one of the worst officials he'd had after his side's loss. “Psychologically losing the game, the breaking point Osimhen’s injury, he was thinking of his arm too much," he said.

"At the beginning, we were a pressing team in the first half and we had lower self confidence. The blocks seemed like a foul today. We were expecting one of the best referees in the world but [he was] one of the worst we have encountered.
