Boda Boda Rider Killed in Crash Involving Bus on Kabale–Mbarara Highway
Kabale: A 24-year-old boda boda rider has died in a road crash involving a bus belonging to Abapakasi Bus Company along the Kabale–Mbarara Highway.
The accident occurred on Wednesday night at around 9:40 PM at Kyobugombe.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson Elly Maate identified the deceased as Twesigye Lawrence, a resident of Kyobugombe.
According to police, the crash involved a red Isuzu bus, registration number UAQ 407L, whose driver is currently on the run, and a motorcycle that was reportedly removed from the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the bus was traveling from Kabale to Kampala, while the motorcycle was heading in the opposite direction from Mbarara to Kabale. Upon reaching Kyobugombe, the rider is said to have made an abrupt turn into the path of the oncoming bus, leading to the fatal collision.
Lawrence died at the scene.
Police officers led by CPL Christopher Mugabo visited and documented the scene. The body of the deceased was taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
The bus was towed to Kabale Central Police Station and is pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.
