Police Edge Sheikhs to Clinch Eid Cup Title
The Uganda Police Corporate Team secured a 2–1 victory over the Sheikhs to win the second edition of the Eid Cup at the Kira Road Police Arena, in a match aimed at strengthening community policing and fostering unity through sport.
The closely contested fixture brought together members of the police force and the wider community in a symbolic event designed to promote collaboration and mutual understanding.
The event was graced by Ahmed Mohammed Abdullah Al-Zweidi, Qatar’s Ambassador to Uganda, who pledged support toward upgrading the Police Arena. He was accompanied by Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu, Uganda’s Ambassador to Sudan.
Representing the Inspector General of Police, the Deputy Inspector General of Police James Ocaya emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration between the police and the communities they serve.
The Uganda Police Corporate Team lifted the main trophy following their 2–1 win, while the Sheikhs claimed victory in the post-match penalty shootout, edging their opponents 2–1.
The event attracted a number of high-profile guests, including ONC Manager, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo; The Director of Human Resource Development, Moses Kafeero Kabugho; the Director of Police Forensic Services, Andrew Mubiru; Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke; Commander of Kampala Metropolitan Police, Emitu Ezekiel, alongside other senior officers.
Organizers noted that the Eid Cup continues to serve as an important platform for engagement, bringing together police officers and members of the public in a relaxed environment while reinforcing shared values of unity, cooperation, and trust through sport.
