Mob Lynches Two Suspected Cannibals in Kyankwanzi
Police in Kyankwanzi District have launched investigations into a suspected murder case that triggered mob justice, leaving three people dead.
The incident occurred on March 20, 2026, in Kiryanongo Village, Bananywa Sub-county, where an angry mob lynched two men identified only as Ssemasaka and Hakiza Damaseni, both reported to be of Rwandan origin.
According to preliminary police reports, the mob descended on the suspects after residents discovered a body inside their house under suspicious circumstances. The deceased has been identified as Vensi, a woman and resident of Nakabugo Village, who had earlier been reported missing.
Residents reportedly became suspicious after noticing a foul smell coming from the suspects’ house. This prompted a search, during which the body was discovered, leading to outrage among community members.
The situation quickly escalated, and the two suspects were attacked and killed by the mob before police could intervene.
The Chairperson of Kiryanongo Village reported the matter to Bananywa Sub-county Police, prompting a response led by the Kyankwanzi District Police Commander.
All three bodies were transported to Ntwetwe Health Centre IV for postmortem examinations.
Police have condemned the act of mob justice and urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
