A tragic road accident has claimed the lives of three supporters of Red Devo FC following their team’s heavy defeat in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 16.

On Friday night at Hamz Stadium in Kampala, Express FC delivered a dominant 4–0 victory over Red Devo FC, eliminating them from the tournament organized by Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).

However, the disappointment on the pitch soon turned into heartbreak off it.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, a taxi carrying Red Devo FC supporters traveling back home to Amolatar was involved in a fatal crash along the Kampala–Gulu Highway. The accident killed three people on the spot, identified as Oyuku Arafat, Kawinya, and the driver Odyek Juma.

Several other passengers were injured in the crash and were rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital for medical treatment.

Initial reports circulating on social media claimed that as many as eight people had died in the accident, including the club’s CEO. However, police and hospital officials later clarified that three deaths had been confirmed, while the injured victims remain under medical care.

News of the tragedy quickly spread across the football community, prompting an outpouring of grief and condolences from fans and clubs alike. Many supporters took to social media to offer prayers to the victims’ families while also calling for stronger road safety measures on Uganda’s highways.
