Seven Dead in Separate Road Accidents in Ntungamo Over the Weekend
At least seven people were killed over the weekend in separate accidents along Ntungamo roads, with a single accident claiming five lives alone.
Three people were killed on the spot when a track they were traveling on overturned along the Kakukuru-Kayenje road in Rweikiniro Sub-county, Ntungamo District, on Saturday morning. Two died on the way to the hospital, while several others are still nursing serious injuries.
Rwizi region spokesperson Mr. Samson Kasasira confirmed the incident, noting that three people died on the spot.
His report identified the victims as Mukiibi Hakim, 62; Muhoozi Mustafa; and Muzafari Kirema. The report further noted that the track, which was coming from Ntungamo and headed for Kagongi Market in Kayenje, was carrying mobile traders.
The Ntungamo officer in charge of traffic and road safety, Mr. Frank Beinomugisha, said two other passengers on the track, one Safina Rwomushana and one identified as Julius, died on their way to the hospital.
Eyewitnesses said the track was loaded with goods and passengers were on top of the vehicle before it failed to brake on a slope.
Mr. John Kihemu Kamanda, the LCI chairperson of Kabagyenda Cell, was killed in a hit-and-run accident at Kabagyenda Matooke Market along Ntungamo-Kabale Road on Saturday night.
An unidentified woman was killed in another accident at Karegyeya along the Ntungamo-Rukungiri Road on Saturday morning.
