MP Enos Airlifted to Nairobi: Gunshot or Fracture? The 10 unanswered Questions
Hon Enos who was admitted to IHK was flown to Nairobi Hospital.
Kabula County MP-elect Enos K Asiimwe has been flown to Nairobi Hospital for further management following the failed assassination attempt on the night of March 14 at Courtyard Hotel in Lyantonde District.
Enos, whose ancestral home is a stone-throw away from where he was attacked, leaves lingering questions as to why he chose to stay at the hotel, a place he has since turned into a home of sorts, according to those who know him.
Early last week, Police told the media that it had arrested seven people, all workers of the hotel, after the attacker reportedly disguised himself as hotel staff.
Police further indicated that the MP overpowered the attacker who had accessed the room, but when the attacker forced himself in again, the MP jumped through the window from the second floor, landing badly and injuring his leg.
It was also reported that the hotel had a karaoke night at the time of the attack, making it hard for anyone to hear his alarm.
Police have not issued any fresh update beyond that.
However, Hon. Enos has his own version of events, which he has been sharing with those who visited him at International Hospital Kampala before he was flown to Nairobi.
To summarize, he had a meeting with constituents near Courtyard Hotel.
Among those who attended was Doreen Birungi, wife to jailed UPDF General James Birungi. The meeting reportedly centered on coffee.
During the meeting, it was observed that security had been compromised, prompting everyone, including the MP, to leave the venue.
At about 11pm, Enos returned to his room. As he approached his door and pulled out his card to open it, he noticed someone peeping from the opposite room. As he opened his door, he saw the barrel of a gun pointed at him.
He reportedly joked, “You man, do you want to kill me?” before realising that the unknown assassin was indeed aiming at him.
He immediately leaped into his room and shut the door. With modern hotel doors that use cards as keys, one can open from inside without a card, but a card is required when opening from outside.
Moments later, he heard loud bangs as the hooded attacker struggled to break in. Within minutes, the door was opened. Enos believes the attacker first used the gun to hammer the door and later used a master key to gain entry.
He then jumped out of the window and fell to the ground.
Contrary to earlier reports that the attacker also jumped, Enos told close friends that the assailant instead used the stairs, came outside, found him writhing in pain, and cocked the gun to shoot. The weapon jammed, and its spring reportedly broke.
He believes the gun failed to fire because it had been used to hammer the door.
The attacker then grabbed his phone and disappeared.
TrumpetNews has since learnt that the assassin abandoned the gun in the neighbourhood, and it has since been recovered. The firearm is reportedly registered with two serial numbers, making it difficult to trace its origin.
10 critical questions remain unanswered
All murders around the world often revolve around five key motives: deals (money), property (wealth), women (love), politics (power), and revenge.

How was the room booked, and does the hotel have records of the occupant?
If the attacker used a master key, how did he obtain it? Was there an accomplice among hotel staff?
Does Courtyard Hotel have CCTV cameras, and is there footage of the attacker leaving with the gun?
Who owns the gun that has two serial numbers?
How far have Police investigations progressed?
Why does the MP stay at the hotel despite having a home nearby?
Had the MP received prior threats?
Which part of the leg is most likely to fracture from such a fall, and could the injury be from a gunshot?
Is the MP’s version of events the full truth?
Who warned the MP earlier that security was compromised, and has that person been interviewed yet?
