‎Police have dismissed as false and misleading widespread social media reports alleging that Field Force Unit (FFU) officer Moses Mukiibi has been arrested.

‎The claims, which began circulating on Wednesday, suggested that Mukiibi had been detained while allegedly attempting to flee to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The reports quickly gained traction online, drawing public attention due to the officer’s high profile.

‎Mukiibi rose to prominence during the 2026 presidential election period, where he was widely seen as one of the lead commanding officers linked to presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine.

His visible role in operations during the campaign season placed him at the center of public and media attention.

‎Currently holding the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP), Mukiibi is attached to the FFU, a specialized unit within the Uganda Police Force tasked with handling high-risk operations, including crowd control and public order management.

‎In response to the reports, police authorities moved to set the record straight, describing the information as propaganda intended to mislead the public.

‎Police Deputy Spokesperson Diana Nandawula, on Thursday, issued a statement refuting the allegations and confirming that the officer remains actively on duty.

‎ “Our attention has been drawn to misleading and false propaganda circulating on social media alleging that SP Karim Mukiibi of the Field Force Unit (FFU) has been arrested by the Uganda Police," Nandawula stated.

‎ “We wish to clarify that SP Mukiibi has not been arrested. He remains on duty and continues to diligently perform his official police responsibilities.” She added.

‎The police statement comes amid growing concerns over the spread of misinformation on social media platforms, particularly involving security agencies and public officials.

‎‎Authorities have in recent months repeatedly warned against the circulation of unverified claims, noting that such content can cause unnecessary panic and undermine public trust in institutions.
