Breaking: UPDF Generals Don Nabasa, Namanya arrested
In a significant development, Major General Don Nabasa and Brigadier General Johnson Namanya, two senior Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officers, have been detained at Kasenyi military facility.
The move follows a directive from Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, but the specific reasons behind their detention remain unclear.
Major General Don William Nabasa is a prominent figure in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) currently serving as the Joint Staff Policy and Strategy in the UPDF, a position he was appointed to on January 3, 2025. Before this, he commanded the UPDF’s Third Infantry Division in Moroto.
Brig. Johnson Namanya Abaho, worked as the Commissioner of Citizenship and Passport Management at the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control until last month when he was recalled.
This action comes amidst broader efforts by Gen Muhoozi to enforce discipline and accountability within the UPDF.
Earlier TrumpetNews reported the abrupt sacking of deputy of Military Intelligence Brig. Abdul Rumayo still on CDF’s orders.
While the UPDF has not officially commented on the arrests, Gen Muhoozi has been vocal about maintaining integrity and professionalism within the military.
The detention of these senior officers underscores the CDF’s commitment to addressing issues within the force, though the exact nature of the allegations against them is yet to be disclosed.
The UPDF has been undergoing various reforms aimed at enhancing its operational effectiveness and public image. The outcome of this development may have implications for the military’s leadership and its approach to governance and accountability.
The situation is being closely monitored, and further details are expected as more information becomes available.
