“Ugandans now love me”- singer Big Eye boasts

Singer Ibrahim Mayanja alias Big Eye has revealed that making amends with Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has helped him get accepted back into the industry.

Big Eye has a had tumultuous past couple of years after the music fan base turned against him for publicly decampaigning singer-turned-politician Kyagulanyi prior to 2021 presidential elections.

Once a fans’ darling, Big eye quickly became an industry outcast and was on several occasions pelted with bottles and chased away from stage, forcing music promoters to stop booking him for shows.

However, ever since he met Kyagulanyi and made peace with the National Unity Platform (NUP) leader in November last year, Big eye has slowly won back the hearts of Ugandans and can now perform without interruption.

Appearing on Sanyuka Television, Big Eye has revealed that people are finally starting to take notice of him once more, something he attributes to his mended relationship with Kyagulanyi.

“Definitely, it is starting to bear fruits because I can now freely sing for people and they are happy. They now love me. I even highlighted that during recent Enkuuka,”

“Before, whenever I could step on stage, bottles would be flying all over me. But this time around, when I performed at Enkuuka, everyone was dying to touch me, and they were doing whatever I told them to..but before, they couldn’t even give me a minute to talk. They used to say ‘go and leave us alone.”

On November 3, Big Eye received a warm reception from Kyagulanyi and fans during the official opening of NUP head offices in Makerere, Kavule.

He would later describe the reception from the NUP camp as “overwhelming”.

“My life is back, I am thrilled with joy and happiness. I am having better night sleeps. The love and affection I received since that day I was reintroduced to the world is overwhelming,” Big Eye told journalists last year.
