Mbale City Butcher Hacks, Disarms Police Officer Enforcing Arrest
Police in Mbale city are searching for a butcher, Karimu Kayi, who disarmed and injured a police officer during a scuffle while resisting arrest on Wednesday, 25th March, 2026.
Kayi, a resident of Kasanvu in Northern City Division, allegedly has a criminal record and has previously been granted over five court bails.
According to Yahaya Were, Deputy City Commissioner in charge of the Northern City Division, two officers from the Mbale high court attached to Mbale Central Police Station went to arrest Kayi at his butchery located at Kasanvu on Wednesday.
Kayi resisted the arrest and in the process injured officer Wanyala, overpowered him, and took his gun. He fired several shots into the air before abandoning the gun at the scene and fled.
By press time, efforts to get a comment from Elgon region police spokesperson, SP Rogers Taitika were unsuccessful, as he kept on telling this reporter to hold on until he gets all details from the DPC Northern City Division.
