Two women charged with land fraud and forgery in Kira
KIRA, Uganda — Two women appeared before the Kira Magistrates Court on Friday charged with land fraud, including criminal trespass, impersonation and forgery.
The State House Investigations Policy Unit, in collaboration with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Criminal Investigations Directorate, arraigned Kamakune Lucky and Nabatanzi Hadijja. The women, along with others still at large, are accused of fraudulently claiming ownership of land in the Kyadondo, Kiwologoma and Kira divisions of the Wakiso district.
Authorities said the land belongs to Suzan Karungi. Investigators allege the suspects forged a land title and presented it to PLC Financial Services in Ntinda, Kampala, as collateral for a 30 million shilling loan.
Kamakune and Nabatanzi were remanded to Luzira Prison until March 31, when they are scheduled to return to court.
Col. Edith Nakalema, head of the investigations unit, said the agency remains committed to fighting fraud that threatens investment and the socio-economic transformation of the country.
