BUDAKA

A Police officer has been arrested for allegedly aiding escape of a hardcore criminal from Budaka District Central Police cells on Thursday, 2nd April, 2026.

PC Muhumuza Samuel, No 75498, a police officer attached to Budaka Police Station in Budaka District was subsequently arrested and detained VIDE: BDK CRB 144/2026.

According to the PRO Bukedi North, ASP Kyempasa Wilfred’s statement issued today, 4th April, 2026, PC Muhumuza is being held on charges of aiding the escape of a one Tibita Edrine, 24 year old Musoga and resident of Buwaya Village, Buwaya Sub County in Mayuge District.

Tibita had been arrested on charges of aggravated robbery under BUDAKA CRB 139/2026 and his file already sanctioned for prosecution by the Resident Senior State Attorney.

Muhumuza on the fateful morning at around 6:30AM, reported on duty as a Male Cells Guard and found 4 suspects in custody. He picked one of them to clean the station and moved aside to pick a brush for cleaning, leaving the door to the cells open.

Tibita took advantage, sneaked out and ran along the corridor to the counter and joined the main road of Mbale Highway and branched into ae nearby garden and disappeared.

Muhumuza and other officers tried to chase him but to no success.

Kyempasa says Muhumuza’s File has been submitted to RSSA for perusal and legal guidance while other officers have been charged with neglect of duty VIDE BUDAKA SD REF: 48/02/04/2026. These officers were not alert while others were taking inventory to handover to the incoming day shift.
