The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has added to the Kabaka’s Easter message, emphasizing the importance of service and responsibility across all sectors, including families, government institutions, and security agencies.

He urged leaders and public servants to prioritize actions that improve the welfare of the people they serve, noting that government resources come from taxpayers and must be used effectively.

Speaking during the Easter Mass held at Lubaga Cathedral in Kampala on Sunday, Mayiga also praised the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Paul Ssemogerere, for his strong stance against the deadly attack at a daycare centre in Kampala that claimed the lives of four young children.

“We hope the suspect will face the full force of the law for his actions and explain the motives behind this horrendous act,” he said.

The tragic incident occurred on Thursday at Ggaba Early Childhood Day Care Centre in Makindye Division. Police report that the suspect, identified as Christopher Okello Anyu, gained access to the school by posing as a parent seeking to enrol a child.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Racheal Kawala, the suspect initially approached the school administration to inquire about fees. He was given a circular and asked to return later.

“Preliminary findings indicate the suspect came seeking admission, was told to return today, paid the admission fees, and then proceeded to stab the children,” SP Kawala said.

The suspect reportedly entered a classroom with 14 pupils, fatally injuring four children: Ryan Odeke (1½ years), Gideon Eteko (2½ years), Keisha Elungat (2 years), and Ignatius Sseruyange (2 years).

Referencing the Kabaka’s Easter message, which called for transparent and timely communication between authorities and residents regarding urban planning regulations, Mayiga cautioned against delayed enforcement of building regulations, which often leads to demolitions after citizens have invested in construction.

“Uganda has strong laws; the challenge is that they are not implemented at the appropriate time, which is costly to citizens,” he said.

Mayiga also criticized individuals, particularly some born-again or Pentecostal believers, who shout all night while praying, dismissing the practice as unnecessary.

“God is not deaf; we don’t need to shout all night for Him to hear our prayers,” he said.

Finally, Mayiga urged the Kabaka’s subjects and the general public to participate in the upcoming Kabaka Birthday Run on April 12, 2026, aimed at fighting HIV/AIDS, and to attend the Kabaka’s birthday celebrations at St. Nicholas Cathedral Namungoona the following day.
