The race for Guild President at Makerere University has taken a dramatic turn, with candidate Hannah Karema facing allegations of voter bribery.
Karema, who is running as an independent, is locked in a tight contest with Gracious Kadondi, the flag bearer for the National Unity Platform (NUP).
Reports circulating online claim that Karema has been offering money and other incentives to sway voters as the elections draw closer.
Despite the accusations, Karema has remained confident, suggesting her growing popularity is unsettling her rivals.
“They are just afraid of my candidature,” she has previously stated.
Meanwhile, former guild president Churchill Sentamu weighed in on the debate, questioning whether it is realistic to run a competitive campaign without financial backing.
“Is it possible to run a campaign at this level without investing a single coin?” he wrote on X.
The allegations have sparked heated debate among students, raising concerns about campaign ethics while also highlighting the realities of student politics.
