Elderly Man found Killed in Kisoro
Police in Kisoro District are investigating the killing of a 70-year-old man under circumstances pointing to murder.
The deceased has been identified as Benon Nsekerabaro, a resident of Bukerahe Village in Chibumba Parish, Murora Sub-county.
According to residents, Nsekerabaro was last seen on Easter Sunday evening at Nyakagezi Trading Centre, where he had gone to socialize. He reportedly left the area at around midnight and began walking back home.
However, he never made it. It is alleged that he was waylaid by unknown assailants along the way and beaten to death.
His family grew concerned after he failed to return home that night. On Easter Monday, they received information from the trading centre that he had been killed.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi region Police spokesperson, says officers who visited the scene recovered key exhibits, including an iron bar suspected to have blood stains and two broken teeth believed to belong to the deceased.
Maate adds that the owner of the bar where Nsekerabaro had been drinking is currently in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
Police have appealed to members of the public with information that could help identify the suspects to come forward, as efforts to track down those responsible continue.
