UCC Engages Kasujja, Signals Closer Coordination with Media Centre

KAMPALA — The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has held a high-level meeting with Allan Kasujja, the newly appointed Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre, signaling a push for closer coordination in government communication.

UCC Executive Director Nyombi Thembo described the engagement as a key step in aligning the regulator with the government’s central communications body.

“Our meeting with Mr Alan Kasujja … was an important milestone in enhancing the strategic collaboration between the Uganda Communications Commission and the government’s main information agency,” Thembo said this Wednesday.

He said the partnership is critical amid shifting communication trends.

“In an era of rapidly evolving communication dynamics, collaboration between the regulator and the Media Centre is essential for fostering a coherent national narrative,” he added.

Thembo said discussions focused on improving coordination across government to strengthen clarity and public trust.

“Our discussions focused on a shared vision for improved inter-agency coordination to ensure that government priorities are communicated with the clarity needed to maintain public trust.”

He added that digital transformation will be central to the collaboration.

“We further explored the imperative of digital transformation, focusing on the integration of emerging technologies to broaden the reach and efficacy of public information dissemination.”

Both sides also committed to strengthening professionalism in the media sector.

“Furthermore, we reaffirmed a mutual commitment to advancing professionalism within the media sector by upholding rigorous standards in journalism and public broadcasting.”

Thembo expressed confidence in Kasujja’s leadership, citing his global experience.

“With his extensive international expertise, Mr Kasujja is well-positioned to contribute to this mission.”

Kasujja, a former BBC journalist, recently took over at the Media Centre, which coordinates government communication.
