The Indian Government Is Offering 67 Fully Funded Scholarships To Ugandan Students

Ugandan students have a rare and time-sensitive opportunity to study at Indian universities on a fully funded government scholarship — but the window is closing fast. Applications for the Indian Government Scholarship for the 2026/2027 Academic Year close on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

A total of 67 slots are available across three academic levels — 19 at PhD level, 23 at Master’s level, and 25 at undergraduate level — spread across fields that align closely with Uganda’s most critical skills gaps as identified in the national development agenda.

Five slots are available for a PhD in Pharmacology, five for a PhD in Food Science and Technology, and five for a PhD in Education — three areas of high national demand. Two slots are available for a PhD in Petroleum Geosciences and Production, directly relevant to Uganda’s growing oil and gas sector, and two for a PhD in Cyber Security, one of the most rapidly expanding fields in the global digital economy.

Master’s Level — 23 Slots

At postgraduate taught level, five slots are available for an MSc in Computer Forensics, four for an MSc in Environmental Sciences, two for an MSc in Sports Management, and twelve for an MSc in Natural Sciences covering Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics — the single largest allocation in the entire scholarship package and a significant opportunity for science graduates looking to advance their qualifications.

Undergraduate Level — 25 Slots

The undergraduate allocation covers five high-demand disciplines. Six slots are available for BSc Pharmacy, six for BSc Civil Engineering, five for BSc Computer Science, four for BSc Environmental Health Science, and four for Actuarial Sciences — a field with strong demand across Uganda’s insurance, banking, and financial services sectors.

India has one of the world’s most established and respected higher education systems, with particular strength in science, technology, engineering, pharmacy, and mathematics disciplines. Indian universities have produced some of the world’s leading researchers, engineers, and technology professionals, and the Indian Government Scholarship programme has a long track record of producing well-trained graduates who return to contribute meaningfully to their home countries.

For Ugandan students — particularly those in science and technology disciplines where postgraduate training locally is limited or expensive — this scholarship represents access to world-class education at no personal cost, in fields that Uganda’s own human resource forecast identifies as critically undersupplied.

The alignment between the scholarship’s available fields and Uganda’s NDP IV priority sectors is striking. Pharmacology, Food Science, Petroleum Geosciences, Cyber Security, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering — these are precisely the disciplines in which Uganda has identified acute skills gaps that domestic institutions are currently unable to fill at sufficient scale.

Eligible candidates are encouraged to submit their applications not later than Wednesday, April 15, 2026. Given the proximity of the deadline, prospective applicants should begin preparing their documents immediately.

Full eligibility criteria and application details were partially visible in the official notice. Interested candidates are strongly advised to contact the Indian High Commission in Kampala or visit the official Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarship portal for complete application requirements and submission instructions.

With only days until the deadline, this is not an opportunity to bookmark and return to later. If you or someone you know meets the academic requirements for any of the 67 available slots — at PhD, Master’s, or undergraduate level — the time to act is today.

How To Apply — Two Steps, Both Required

This scholarship has a dual application process. You must complete both steps for your application to be valid.
