Soroti Mobile Money Agent Murder Riffle Recovered, 5 Suspects Arrested

The East Kyoga Regional Police have confirmed the recovery of an AK-47 rifle believed to have been used in the murder of Patricia Kokunda, a mobile money agent in Soroti.

‎‎‎The weapon was traced in Northern Karamoja.‎‎‎‎Kokunda was tragically shot and killed on April 3, 2026, around 4:40 a.m.

at Teso Coach Park, located along Station Road near Goal Man Supermarket in Soroti City. At the time, she was on her way to the Ocorimogin cattle market in Katakwi, where she operated her weekly mobile money business.

Armed assailants attacked her, robbing and fatally shooting her.‎‎‎‎According to a statement from the police, five suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime.

The suspects are Alex Okello, Felix Onego, Simon Epeu (also known as Iboda), Elacu Alfred, who is believed to be the actaul shooter and a yet-to-be nemed suspect who was found with the killer gun but whoe isdentinty -has not been disclosed as investigations are ongoing.‎‎‎‎

In operations subsequent to the cold blooded murder, Simon Epeu was apprehended in Anyara, where police recovered 7 million shillings, believed to be part of the vctim’s stolen money.‎‎‎

Additionally, Kokunda’s smartphone was found discarded in a bush in Kichinjani ward in Soroti City.‎‎Ibrahim Saiga, the East Kyoga Regional Police Commander, stated, “Yes, we have recovered the suspected killer gun, and we are currently conducting further investigations into how it was obtained by the suspects.”

‎‎‎‎ He added that the five suspects are in custody and are providing vital information regarding the aggravated robbery and murder of Kokunda.

“We have intensified our investigations into this matter, and we will ensure that all those involved are brought to justice,” Saiga promised.
