UPDF Commends Masindi Army Secondary School for Strong UCE, UACE Performance

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has commended Masindi Army Secondary School for its outstanding performance in the 2025 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations, in which the institution emerged second best in the district.

The commendation was delivered by Brigadier General Richard Karemire, the Joint Staff Officer for Formal Education, Sports and Culture, who conveyed the commitment of the Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations (SPA/SO), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, towards strengthening education within UPDF institutions.

Speaking during the event, the Artillery Division Commander and Chairperson of the School Board of Governors, Major General Daniel Kakono, congratulated students on their performance and encouraged them to maintain discipline and focus in order to achieve even greater academic success.

“You have done well, but this is only the beginning. We can do even better than what we have achieved so far. Continue working hard, stay disciplined, and success will follow,” he said.

Maj Gen Kakono further appreciated the UPDF leadership for its continued support to the school, noting that it has significantly contributed to improved academic performance and a more conducive learning environment.

Brig Gen Karemire praised the school administration, teaching staff, parents, and students for their sustained commitment to academic excellence, noting that Masindi Army Secondary School continues to record commendable results year after year.

He highlighted that UPDF formal education institutions have expanded to 53 schools, including 28 primary schools, 11 secondary schools, and four tertiary institutions. He attributed this growth to guidance President Museveni, who prioritised education for soldiers’ children as well as surrounding civilian communities.

Brig Gen Karemire further encouraged parents to take advantage of UPDF schools, which admit both military and civilian learners.

The Head Teacher, Lieutenant Gadafi Otim, expressed gratitude to the UPDF leadership and the Joint Staff for Education, Sports and Culture for providing science equipment that has strengthened teaching and learning at the institution.

During the event, top UACE performers were recognised and awarded for their exceptional results. These included Arafat Kyomuhindo (19 points, PCM/ICT), Patrick Womugisha (18 points, BCM/ICT), Ivan Tugume (18 points, BCM/ICT), Emmanuel Opini (18 points, BCM/ICT), and Elvious Kabugho (18 points, GEA/ICT).

The ceremony was attended by senior military officers, including Col Rogers Dhikusooka Kitwala, Deputy Commander of the Artillery Division, commanding officers, members of the teaching staff, the PTA leadership, and religious leaders.

UPDF reaffirmed its commitment to supporting education through continued investment in school infrastructure, teaching resources, and student development across its network of learning institutions.
