Breakthrough: 11 Arrested Over Soroti Mobile Money Murder, Police Recover Gun & Cash

Police have arrested 11 suspects in connection with the aggravated robbery and fatal shooting of Soroti City businesswoman Kokunda Patricia.

The 36-year-old mobile money operator was shot dead on April 3 at about 4:40 AM near Goalman Supermarket along Station Road. Her attackers fled the scene with a handbag containing cash and other valuables.

According to police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, the arrests were made following intelligence-led operations carried out across Soroti, Amuria, Kalaki, and Abim districts.

“We have made significant progress. From the initial four suspects, we now have 11 in custody as investigations continue to uncover the entire network behind this crime,” Rusoke said.

Police identified the suspects as Epeu Simon, also known as Iboda, who is suspected to have pulled the victim from her vehicle; Emenyu David, also known as Ogwang Sam or Olipong, believed to be the shooter; Okello Emmanuel, also known as Imorning, identified as a key planner; and Eyamu Rashid, also known as Odekuro, who is alleged to have initiated the robbery plan.

Others in custody include Elacu Alfred and his wife Akello Hellen, who are suspected to have supplied ammunition, as well as Okello Alex, Ojele Jorem also known as Jogo, Elwanu Julius, Onebo Felix, and Akello Salume.

Police say several key exhibits have been recovered, including a rifle suspected to have been used in the shooting, ammunition, clothing believed to have been worn during the attack, a red motorcycle without a number plate, and a Tecno Canon phone belonging to the deceased.

Authorities have also recovered UGX 10.5 million out of the estimated UGX 28 million stolen during the robbery.

Rusoke said operations are still ongoing to apprehend more suspects and recover additional evidence.

“We urge the public to share any information that can support the investigations,” he added.
