Man Utd injury news: Martinez, De Ligt, Dalot and Dorgu latest return dates

Manchester United will be missing several key first-team players when they take on Leeds United on Monday evening. The two long-standing rivals are set to lock horns in a fiercely anticipated clash at Old Trafford. While the two cities may not be immediate neighbours, every encounter between them proves every bit as ferocious as the north London Derby, the Tyne-Wear Derby and the Old Firm.

It is therefore crucial that Michael Carrick has his strongest squad available for the fixture, with considerably more at stake than just three points. Regrettably for the caretaker boss, he will be forced to contend with a string of player absences when the 8pm kick-off gets under way in Greater Manchester, with a clutch of talents ruled out through a variety of complaints. Harry Maguire will also sit out the fixture as a consequence of his redcard against Bournemouth before the international break.

Lisandro Martinez

Lisandro Martinez has been absent from United's line-up since the club's 1-1 draw with West Ham in February, due to a hamstring problem.

Nevertheless, the centre-back could be in contention against Leeds as he nears the end of his recovery. Speaking about Martinez during his press conference this week, Carrick said: "It's just that call that we make. We wouldn't be pushed into anything. I think it's important that the boys are ready.

"It's as important as the next game always is, being the most important is the bigger picture. So that's a decision that we'll take. He's back training, which is great, and back on the grass.

"But we've certainly got to make the right decision and make sure he's ready. We've spoken a lot about that, he's still in."

Matthijs De Ligt has been sidelined since November with a back injury, and regrettably, it doesn't look as though Monday night's fixture will see his comeback. Carrick explained: "Just treatment and rehab. The reason he didn't come, he's not quite on the grass."

He added: "Patrick [Dorgu] came with us and Pat's at that stage a little bit further on. Matta's not quite at that stage yet, so it was important for him to... to continue his rehab really and try and get him back there's nothing else really around it."

Potential return date: Unknown

Patrick Dorgu

Although Patrick Dorgu took part in Manchester United's recent training camp in the Republic of Ireland, he remains some way off making his return to competitive action. The Danish star has not featured for United since sustaining his own hamstring injury during January's 3-2 victory over Arsenal.

Potential return date: Unknown

Diogo Dalot

Although Diogo Dalot missed United's recent camp through illness, he should be in contention for Monday night's Premier League clash.
