Security Guard Steals Shs790m in Cash, Gold

Police in Kampala are hunting for a private security guard who is accused of breaking into a vehicle and stealing shs290 million in cash and gold worth shs500 million.

Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire named the security guard as Justine Akena, attached to Magnum Security Group and is also a resident of Naguru Go Down.

“Its alleged that on April,10, 2026 at around 8pm, one Akena , a security guard working with Magnum Security group while deployed to guard the offices of Goldex Uganda Limited located along Mawanda Road, opened a motor vehicle registration number UA 264AN Toyota Noah pearl white in colour and stole a bag containing money worth shs290 million,” Owoyesigyire said.

He said the security guard also stole gold worth an unspecified amount of money then locked up the premises and disappeared.

This website has separately learnt that the gold stolen was worth shs500 million.

The Nile Post has also learnt that the security guard had been observing the routine at the company offices and could have got wind of some lapses that he took advantage of.

On the fateful day, one of the employees of the company drove the suspect to the city centre and back to office and it is suspected that during this time, he observed the cash and gold .

When they returned to office at around 8pm, it is said they found the premises locked and the person in custody of the bag containing the cash and gold feared moving with it and decided to keep it in the car.

It is here that the private security guard broke into the car and stole the bag, before locking the vehicle and disappeared.

“While the security guard later fled to an unknown destination, efforts are underway to have him arrested,” Owoyesigyire said.
