Police Investigate After Baby Allegedly Poisoned by Relative

Shock and grief have engulfed residents of Katwe Cell in Nakawuka Parish, Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso District after a one-year-old baby girl was allegedly poisoned to death by her caretaker.

The deceased has been identified as Balisala Promise, aged one year.

According to police, the tragic incident happened on the night of April 10, 2026 while the child’s mother had left for night duty.

Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the mother had been leaving the baby with the suspect, who is her nephew, for the last two nights.

Police say the suspect later confessed that the child would cry and disturb him at night.

“He said he administered an overdose of medicine to make the child sleep. However the medicine did not work and the child later died,” Owoyesigyire said.

The suspect was immediately arrested.

Police have now opened a case of murder by poisoning as investigations continue.

Authorities are currently gathering more evidence surrounding the incident.
