Museveni Mourns Archbishop Kaziimba’s Dad

President Museveni has expressed heartfelt condolences following the death of late Besweri Kaddu, father of the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, who passed away on Tuesday at Mengo Hospital.

He was 92.

In a message delivered by Vice President Jessica Alupo during a funeral service held at All Saints Cathedral on Thursday, President Museveni extended sympathies on behalf of the government, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, and himself.

“During this trying moment, my thoughts are with you and I pray that God may grant you the fortitude and strength to endure the loss of your father. I thank God for the life of Mzee and all his wonderful accomplishments on Earth. As we mourn his demise, let us also honour and celebrate his profound and positive impact on his family, friends and the community,” the message read.

The message also included a condolence contribution of Shs 10 million.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Archbishop Kaziimba revealed that his father had battled dementia for approximately 12 years and was unable to recognize him by the time he became Archbishop.

Several prominent leaders attended the service and conveyed their condolences, including Second Deputy Buganda Katikkiro Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, Nnabagereka Sylvia Nagginda Luswata, Trade Minister David Bahati, former Speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, State House Investors Protection Unit Head Col Edith Nakalema and former Prime Ministers Ruhakana Rugunda and Amama Mbabazi.

Adding a playful note to the occasion, many described the Archbishop’s loss as joining the “club of total orphans” (Enfuzi).

Born on August 1, 1933, in Kiwangala Village, Najja Sub-County, Buikwe District, the late Kaddu will be laid to rest tomorrow April 17, 2026, beginning with a funeral service at 12:00pm in Gulama, Najja Sub-County, Buikwe District.
