Hugo Ekitike releases heartbreaking first statement after Liverpool confirm injury details

On Tuesday night, Liverpool suffered one of their most damaging results of the season as they were knocked out of the Champions League after losing 2-0 to reigning champions PSG at Anfield.

The result means that Liverpool boss Arne Slot will go trophyless in his second season at the club, with a battle to secure top five in the Premier League to come.

However, the worst moment during the match wasn't even the goals themselves as star striker Ekitike was forced off the pitch on a stretcher during the first half.

Following the match reports claimed that Ekitike had ruptured his achilles tendon and was facing up to a year off the pitch, with France manager Didier Deschamps confirming he would not be playing at the World Cup.

Posting a picture of himself sitting on the Anfield pitch, Ekitike wrote: “It's hard, maybe even unfair. But I'm grateful this is happening to me here, among you. I'm not alone. Your strength and your love will be my driving force. See you again soon, Anfield.”
