Brian Kirumira, widely known as Bryan White, has appealed to the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court for access to his case file to enable him to apply for bail, warning that his continued detention is severely affecting his health and could leave him permanently disabled.

Kirumira was today presented before the Makindye Court, presided over by Magistrate Sarah Basemerwa, for an update on the progress of investigations into multiple charges against him and his co-accused. He was transported under tight security in a prison double-cabin vehicle and arrived in a visibly frail condition.

Prison officers carried him into the courtroom and placed him in a wheelchair before proceedings commenced, underscoring concerns about his deteriorating physical state.

While addressing the court, Kirumira pleaded with the magistrate to guide him on how to access the case file, explaining that his efforts to seek bail had been frustrated by his lawyers’ inability to trace it.

“My health is worsening in prison, and I fear I may become permanently disabled if I remain in this condition,” he told the court.

He further expressed frustration with his legal representation, suggesting that his lawyers may not be handling his case diligently, and noting their absence during the session.

In response, Magistrate Basemerwa advised Kirumira to seek medical attention through prison health services. She also referenced his co-accused, Dr. Irene Nambalirwa—who was previously granted bail—and invited her to explain the bail application process in court.

The magistrate informed both Kirumira and his co-accused that investigations into the case are still ongoing. The matter was subsequently adjourned to May 21, 2026.

During the session, Kirumira also requested permission to speak with his relatives, alleging that prison officers had been denying him access and subjecting him to rough handling. The magistrate granted the request.

Following the court proceedings, Kirumira spoke with Mzee Tom Mutyaba, the father of the late Carol Nalubwama, whose death is central to the case. He reportedly pleaded for forgiveness, stating that the death was not intentional.

However, Mzee Mutyaba expressed dissatisfaction with how the case involving Dr. Nambalirwa was handled, revealing that he has petitioned various authorities seeking further investigations.

Kirumira was later transported back to Luzira Prison, while his co-accused were temporarily returned to court holding cells before being transferred to the same facility. Dr. Nambalirwa, who had earlier secured bail, returned home.

Brian Kirumira and his co-accused—including his wife Daisy Nalunga, Daphine Abaho, Naava Nakato, and Dr. Nambalirwa—are facing eight serious charges. These include murder, human sacrifice, manslaughter, unlawful possession of narcotics such as opium, negligence leading to death, and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Prosecution alleges that the offences were committed on October 22, 2025, in Kyamula, Munyonyo, Makindye Division in Kampala.
