KAMPALA — The Secretary General of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) and Kasambya County Member of Parliament, Hon. David Kabanda, has called on Ugandans to participate in large numbers in the upcoming birthday run organized in honor of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The run is scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 24, at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala under the “Theme: Run for Charity,Run for Hope”

Speaking at the press briefing held at the PLU headquarters in Naguru, Kabanda emphasized that although the event is meant to celebrate Gen. Muhoozi’s 52nd birthday, its primary goal is to raise funds to support vulnerable children, particularly orphans.

“This run is not just about celebrating our chairman, but also about giving back to the community by supporting children who lack basic care and necessities,” Kabanda said.

Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and Chairman of PLU, was born on April 24,1974. PLU members have, since 2019, marked his birthday through community runs aimed at mobilizing support for charitable causes.

Kabanda confirmed that this year’s run will be flagged off at Kololo, with Gen. Muhoozi expected to lead as the chief runner. However, he encouraged supporters who may not be able to make it to Kampala to organize parallel runs within their respective localities.

The legislator also commended several individuals who have supported the initiative by purchasing running kits for participants. These include the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, her deputy Thomas Tayebwa, businessman Hamis Kigundu, among others.

He urged all participants to purchase official running kits only from designated outlets to ensure accountability and proper coordination of the event.

Meanwhile, Kabanda extended his congratulations to the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, upon celebrating his 34th birthday.

The Muhoozi birthday run is expected to attract thousands of participants from across the country, blending celebration with a cause aimed at improving the lives of underprivileged children.
