Police Arrests 8 Persons Marrying Off 16 Year Old S.3 Student in Kiboga District

Police have arrested 8 persons involved in marrying off a 16 year old girl and S.3 student in Kagoga village, Kyomya Sub County in Kiboga district.

According to SSP L Kigozi, PRO Wamala Region, the arrests took place on Friday, after a tip off from a concerned resident.

According to a birth document from an informer, the victim (bride) is a born of 06/12/2010 which by calculation puts her age at 16 years as by Friday, 17th April, 2026 when they attempted to marry her off.

Dowry items like sugar, soap, rice, meat, 3 Gomesi, 2 Kanzus among others were recovered as exhibits.

The suspects are identified as Kiyingi Yunus (father of the bride), Luwedde Robina (Mother of the bride), Namubiru Allen (Auntie/Senga), Nakibuuka Viola (Victim) and Kawuki Mathias (Groom/ suspect).

Others are; Sande Walulya David (Father of the groom/ suspect), Kafeero Jacob, and Tusibira Esther (Mother to the groom/ suspect).

The suspects are being held at Kiboga Central police station.

Charges of defilement and procuring defilement have been preferred against the eight people waiting for sanctioning by the Resident State Attorney of Kiboga.

Kigozi advises that parents should be cautious of the legally acceptable age of marrying off their children which is 18 years in Uganda.
