NO MORE CHICKEN THIGHS: Mabira’s Roadside Market Najjembe Demolished As Gov't Steps Up Demolition Of Makeshift Markets
The popular Najjembe roadside market famous for its roasted chicken, gonja, nyama choma, and other roadside delicacies right as you enter Mabira Forest along the Kampala-Jinja highway in Lugazi Municipality (Buikwe District) has been demolished.
The demolition that took place on Thursday, 16th April, 2026 is part of the ongoing nationwide trade order enforcement.
Local authorities are clearing road reserves and removing makeshift stalls as part of a March 10 directive from the Ministry of Local Government aimed at restoring urban order.
This operation has already resulted in the demolition of kiosks and roadside markets in multiple districts, with vendors reporting heavy losses and limited relocation options.
