Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) has commissioned the 220/132/33kV Buloba Substation, marking a significant step toward improving power reliability in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area.

The substation was successfully connected to the national grid on Sunday evening.

“UETCL has successfully energized the 220/132/33kV Buloba Substation this evening at 6:49 PM,” the company said in a statement shared on social media.

The new facility is expected to strengthen electricity supply in one of Uganda’s most densely populated and economically vital regions, which has long grappled with intermittent outages affecting both households and businesses.

Equipped with 2×125 MVA and 2×40 MVA transformers, the substation forms a key part of the Greater Kampala Transmission System Improvement Project aimed at stabilizing and expanding the power network.

With the transmission infrastructure now in place, focus shifts to distribution. Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) will undertake the connection of local feeders to deliver electricity from the substation to end users.

Areas expected to benefit include Kabulasoke, Mutundwe, Kyengera, Mpigi, and surrounding communities, where demand for reliable power continues to grow.
