The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Nansana, Charles Lwanga, has called on boda boda riders to take proactive steps in eliminating criminal elements within their ranks, warning that such individuals are damaging the reputation of the industry.

Speaking during a meeting with boda boda riders in Nansana, Lwanga emphasized the need for self-regulation among riders, particularly as they prepare for the upcoming birthday run of Muhoozi Kainerugaba scheduled to take place at Kololo.

“You must organize yourselves and identify wrong elements among you, including thievesand wrongdoers. These are the people spoiling your name and undermining your work,” Lwanga said.

He commended the riders for their role in supporting security agencies in fighting crime, noting that their cooperation has contributed to improved safety in the area.

“We appreciate the efforts you have made in working with security to fight crime. Continue with the same spirit to ensure our communities remain safe,” he added.

During the same meeting, Emma Kuteesa, who represented Christopher Damulira, assured the riders and the public that security arrangements have been intensified ahead of the planned event.

“Security has been strengthened to ensure that all participants and members of the public are safe during the run. We are fully prepared to manage the event,” Maj. Kuteesa said.

He also explained that the birthday run is intended not only as a celebration but also as a platform to promote unity and community engagement.

Meanwhile, the Nansana Division boda boda chairperson, Rashid Musa, urged fellow riders to embrace hard work and participate in development initiatives to improve their livelihoods.

“Let us work hard and take part in development programs so that we can uplift ourselves from poverty. Our unity and commitment will help us achieve a better future,” Musa said.

The meeting highlighted both the growing role of boda boda riders in community security and the need for discipline within the sector, especially as they take part in national and social events.
