Court Charges Businessman for Stealing $2.4 Million Worth of Gold, Remanded To Luzira Prison

The court has charged Mohammad Ali, a 32-year-old businessman from Kampala, with stealing 30 kilograms of gold worth $2.4 million. The charge, which was filed in April 2026, follows an investigation into an incident that took place between September 22nd and October 2nd, 2025, in the Bukasa-Muyenga area of Kampala. Ali, along with others who are still at large, is accused of stealing the gold from Musa Muhammad, the director of MAPSCO General Trading L.L.C.

The gold was stolen under the guise of a business deal. Ali and his accomplices allegedly pretended to be legitimate buyers and convinced Muhammad to sell them the gold. However, instead of making the purchase, they stole the gold and left Muhammad with a significant financial loss. The stolen gold was valued at a massive $2.4 million—two million four hundred thousand U.S. dollars.

In addition to the theft charge, Ali is also facing a charge of cheating. Police claim that Ali fraudulently obtained $2.4 million by deceiving Muhammad into thinking he was selling the gold in a legitimate transaction. This case has shocked the business community in Kampala, and the court proceedings are closely followed by the public as authorities work to locate Ali and his accomplices.
