The High Court in Kampala has sentenced Tumwesigye Vincent, a 30-year-old security guard, to 18 years in prison for aggravated homosexuality after he pleaded guilty under a plea bargain arrangement.

Presiding Judge Justice Isaac Muwata delivered the sentence on Wednesday, 23rd April 2026, following Tumwesigye’s voluntary admission at the start of the trial.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) described the case as a significant milestone in efforts to protect children from sexual abuse. “Today, 23rd April 2026, the Office of the DPP has registered success in the prosecution of Tumwesigye Vincent for aggravated homosexuality,” the ODPP stated.

Court records indicate that Tumwesigye, employed as a guard at the residence of the victim’s parents, subjected a six-year-old child, identified as BT, to repeated sexual abuse. Evidence presented included the child’s complaints of pain, the mother’s discovery of injuries, and medical findings of trauma on the child’s genital area. The ODPP further noted that Tumwesigye manipulated, intimidated, and repeatedly abused the victim, employing threats ranging from death threats to instilling irrational fears.

During pre-trial, Tumwesigye sought bail, which was denied. When the case was set for hearing, the prosecution, led by Senior State Attorney Timothy Amerit, had prepared four witnesses. However, Tumwesigye opted for a plea bargain at the commencement of trial. Upon his unequivocal plea and acceptance of the plea bargain agreement, Justice Muwata convicted and sentenced him to 18 years’ imprisonment.

The ODPP highlighted that the plea deal expedited the proceedings and spared the young victim the trauma of testifying in court. The prosecution was conducted under Uganda’s laws on aggravated homosexuality.
