Buganda Kingdom Mourns Sunaj Nankanja Ssenkaayi
Buganda Kingdom leaders have paid tribute to Sunaj Nankanja Ssenkaayi, praising her role in supporting diaspora mobilisation and welfare initiatives, as mourners gathered at Kibuli Mosque for funeral prayers.
The Buganda Kingdom has expressed deep sorrow following the death of Sunaj Nankanja Ssenkaayi, wife of Abubaker Ssenkaayi, a former representative of the Kabaka in North America.
Funeral prayers were held at Kibuli Mosque, where a condolence message from the Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga, was delivered by Amisi Mukasa Kakomo.
In his message, the Katikkiro praised the late Nankanja Ssenkaayi for her unwavering support to her husband and her dedication to the Kingdom’s service.
“The deceased strongly supported her husband in all his duties and in his service to the Kabaka, including mobilising and caring for Buganda’s people in the diaspora, especially in the United States,” the message read.
He added that she played a significant role in promoting the welfare of the Kabaka’s subjects, including supporting initiatives that contributed to the establishment of a hospital and other community efforts.
The Katikkiro extended condolences to Abubaker Ssenkaayi and the bereaved family.
“We stand with Ssenkaayi and the entire family during this difficult time. May God grant them strength and comfort, and may the soul of the deceased rest in eternal peace,” the message added.
Among those who attended the prayers were the Nnaabagereka, Sylvia Nagginda, Kassim Nakibinge, and other prominent Muslim leaders, reflecting unity and solidarity during the mourning period.
Sunaj Nankanja Ssenkaayi is remembered for her commitment, compassion, and contribution to both her family and the Buganda Kingdom.
