Police in Kanungu District are investigating the death of a boda boda rider whose body was found in Kiruruma River on Wednesday morning following a suspected night accident.
The deceased has been identified as Moses, son of Wilex Kyomukama of Kameme Cell, Kibimbiri Parish, Kihihi Sub-county in Kanungu District. His motorcycle, registration number UFL 906L, was discovered with blood stains at Kiruruma Bridge, which borders Matanda and Nyamirama.
According to Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate, the accident is believed to have occurred during the night of April 21 and April 22, 2026.
It is alleged that the deceased had picked up two passengers from Kihihi, heading to Rukungiri, before the incident occurred. His body was later found in the river on the morning of April 22, 2026.
Maate said police visited and documented the scene before retrieving the body from the water. The remains were taken to Kihihi Health Centre IV mortuary for a postmortem examination.
“The motorcycle has been parked pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles,” Maate said.
He added that Kiruruma Bridge in Matanda-Kyentuhe, Kihihi Sub-county, reportedly collapsed on April 17, 2026, following heavy rainfall on the night of April 16, 2026, and had not yet been reconstructed at the time of the incident.
“Investigations into the incident are ongoing,” Maate added.
