Security Agencies Arrest 25 Suspected Criminals in Amuria
In a significant crackdown on crime, security forces in Amuria District have arrested 25 individuals suspected of various criminal activities, including theft, violent attacks, and drug offenses.
This action, spearheaded by the Uganda Police Force in partnership with local security leaders, was informed by intelligence that identified suspects involved in ambushing, assaulting, and robbing unsuspecting individuals, particularly during the night hours.
They were picked mostly from the town councils of Amuria, Asamuk, Orungo, Wera and Abarilela Sub County. Six suspects were arrested in Abarilela Sub County alone.
Paul Eseru, the Amuria Resident District Commissioner, stated that many of the apprehended individuals are believed to have connections with marijuana use and other dangerous drugs, contributing to the rise in criminal incidents in the community.

Out of the 25 arrests, 12 suspects have already appeared in court, while others remain in custody awaiting prosecution. Some individuals are reportedly attempting to flee the district to avoid capture as the operation intensifies.
“Am going to join hands with security operatives in the neighbouring districts so that this criminals trying to flee are arrested also,” he said on April 25, 2026.
Eseru highlighted that the operation was prompted by escalating concerns from residents regarding security threats in trading centers and along major thoroughfares.
Local citizens have reported multiple instances of gang-related attacks and theft, leading to urgent measures by security teams.
In response, authorities have increased surveillance and patrols in high-risk areas, urging community members to stay alert and assist law enforcement by sharing any information that could lead to further arrests.
Leaders in Amuria District have praised the initiative, deeming it timely and essential to combat the rising tide of crime. They have also emphasized the importance of ongoing efforts, such as community sensitization and rehabilitation programs for youths grappling with drug abuse.
The Uganda Police Force has reaffirmed its dedication to upholding law and order, cautioning that anyone involved in criminal activities, or aiding those suspected of such, will face severe legal consequences.
