KAMPALA: 169 Foreign Scammers Netted Inside Restricted Apartment in Bukoto
The National Citizenship and Immigration Control Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has arrested 169 foreign nationals including 36 women suspected to be scammers in a restricted apartment complex in Bukoto, Kampala City.
The foreign nationals from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Ghana, Myanmar, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Thailand, Nepal, Indonesia and Malaysia were arrested on the night of Monday, 27th April, 2026.
According to the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Simon Peter Mundeyi, the suspects were discovered in an apartment complex with its own restaurant and internal facilities designed to restrict access and ensure total focus on illicit operations.
“Upon searching the premises, officers recovered a significant cache of computers and IT equipment used to facilitate illegal gaming, betting, and organized scamming.
Notably the suspects lacked any form of identification including travel passports.
Mundeyi says that preliminary investigations indicate that some of the victims were trafficked into the country with job promises, others were involved in scamming while a small group was got with materials suggesting involvement in other criminal activities.
Mundeyi adds that the arrested suspects are currently undergoing screening and those found culpable will be prosecuted according to the laws of Uganda.
