Female driver shot near Speaker Anita Among’s residence

A yet-to-be-identified female motorist has been shot by a police officer near Speaker Anita Among’s residence in Kampala, sources told this publication on Thursday.

The woman who was reportedly driving a Toyota Harrier near the residence of the Speaker of Parliament at Mackinnon Road in Kampala City was shot at around midday.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Ms Racheal Kawala confirmed the shooting and the injury of a woman, but she said the details are still scanty on what led to the shooting.

“It is true there was a shooting. She was driving a Toyota Harrier UBQ 038A. She was shot by a police officer. I don’t have all the details of the incident right now,” Ms Kawala told this reporter.

Ms Kawala said they will interrogate their officer and also investigate the circumstance of the shooting.

The place of the shooting is barely a kilometre away from where another shooting happened in December 2024.

A 32-year-old truck driver, Julius Ssemwaka, was shot dead by Police Constable Charles Bahati after the victim allegedly failed to reverse his vehicle to allow a convoy of a judicial officer to pass at a junction near Sheraton Hotel in Kampala City.

The suspected shooter, who was attached to the VIPPU and guarding a senior judicial officer, fled and has been seen or arrested since the incident.
