Several vendors operating along Tororo–Busia Road at Corner Junction have been left searching for alternative business space after Tororo Municipality and Osukuru Town Council enforced a trade order to clear roadside traders.

The eviction follows a seven-day ultimatum issued to traders operating along the road, which falls under Tororo Municipality Eastern Division and Osukuru Town Council.

Osukuru Town Council Town Clerk, Samali Sabano Epiat commended the traders for complying with the notice. “They obliged by the seven-day notice issued to them,” she said, adding that the council is committed to supporting the affected vendors with space inside the gazetted market.

However, Eastern Division Town Clerk Methuselah Oloka said the exercise was driven by policy and not a public meeting. “Compliance is required under policy. Anyone who fails to comply will face tough action from the municipal authorities,” he said.

Business community leader Isaac Omachilang of Corner Junction said traders were distressed by the eviction. “We are mourning being chased like Lakwena war victims,” he said. Omachilang noted that many vendors had taken loans from savings groups and questioned how they would repay them without a place to operate.

The affected stretch covers parts of Eastern Division in Tororo Municipality and Osukuru Town Council. Both authorities said the move is intended to decongest the road and enforce physical planning regulations.
