Yumbe-Terego road engineer found dead in lodge

Poni Islam, a national of Bangladesh who was contracted as an engineer in the ongoing tarmacking of Yumbe-Terego Road in West Nile, has been discovered dead in his hotel room in Lomunga Town Council.

North West Nile police spokesperson, Mr Collins Asea, told this publication on Saturday that the deceased, 54, an employee of WKK, was found on Friday morning in a room at Ruvanna Inn Bar and Lodges, which he had booked on Thursday night.

“It is alleged that Jane, a waitress at Ruvanna Inn Bar and Lodges, heard a phone ringing repeatedly from the room marked "Lisbo," which was not answered. She notified Obiru Lillian, the cashier, who in turn informed Jamirah Racheal, the Lodge and Bar Manager”

“The manager approached the room, called out "Hello" several times, but received no response. The door was slightly open but not locked from the inside. Upon pushing the door open, she saw a person lying on the bed. Cesar, the watchman, was called in and confirmed that the individual was already deceased”.

He says the matter was reported to Yumbe Central Police Station at by the manager of the Guest House.

“The lodge owner reported the incident to CPS Yumbe Police. A scene visit and examination were conducted by officers from the Homicide Desk. The body was transported to Yumbe Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination. PF48A was issued for the body to be examined, pending retrieval”

He says, “Statements from witnesses at the scene were recorded, and exhibits recovered from the scene have been secured and documented. No arrests have been made by press time.

“We urge the public to cooperate with ongoing investigations. Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available,” Mr Asea said.
