BREAKING! Speaker Among’s Bodyguard Charged with Attempted Murder
Police Officer attached to Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Annita Among security detail has been charged at court with attempted murder.
Muhanguzi Charge Sheet
Corporal Humphrey Muhanguzi was on Friday arraigned before LDC Magistrate’s Court where he pleaded not guilty and was remanded until 18th May, 2026 when he will return for bail ruling.
Muhanguzi allegedly shot Annet Kemirembe on the fateful day who remains hospitalised.
A source from her family who prefers not to be named told this publication that “another” bullet was removed from her left hand, evidence that she was shot more than once.
Humphrey didn’t have a lawyer. One of the legal aid lawyers from LDC’s Legal Aid project represented him.
According to the Charge Sheet seen by this publication, Muhanguzi on 30th of April, 2026 at Kafu Road, Nakasero village in Kampala District attempted to cause the death of one Kemirembe Annet.
The offence of attempted murder is contrary to Section 187 of the Penal Code Act Cap 128.
The shooting has elicited public outrage with many referring to it as ‘security overreach’ with State Minister for Youth and Child Affairs, Balaam Barugahara calling for restraint to protect innocent lives.
Witnesses say security stopped the victim after prayers at All Saints Cathedral, but she drove off, prompting a chase and gunfire while Parliament claims she ignored worksite advice, leading to an altercation where a bullet was discharged.
