How Did You Get All This Money? When Museveni Demanded Answers on Speaker Anita Among Wealth Source

Anita Among’s luxury SUV was reportedly airlifted from the United Kingdom and arrived in Uganda in April 2026. The vehicle is said to have been imported through Albeity Limited, the same UK-based firm that procured Mercedes-Benz vehicles for parliamentary leadership in 2022.

After including freight, clearance fees, and a Shs 1.2 billion tax bill, the Rolls Royce Cullinan is expected to cost the speaker between Shs 3.5 billion and Shs 4 billion.

Among also reportedly tried to refuse to pay the tax on the vehicle but she would later accept to part with Shs1.2bn in taxes in instalments for the vehicle.

It is also said that Among reportedly told Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) officials that the vehicle was a birthday gift from some people despite her official birthday being in November.

Reports that the speaker acquired the multi-billion car have sparked significant public backlash, with critics wondering why a public official in a poor country like Uganda should buy such an expensive car yet the citizens continue to suffer with drug shortages in hospitals and other challenges that emanate from corruption and poor governance.

Anita Among’s opponent in the 2026 speaker Race Norbert Mao has called on the ruling NRM party to avoid the speaker, calling her Rolls Royce purchase “irresponsible showing off” as reported Here.

ANITA AMONG SOURCE OF WEALTH

Speaker Anita Among’s allies say that those questioning her wealth and its source are just political enemies. They insist that Anita Among runs a string of private businesses like a school and a radio stations which make money.

But even her allies like President Yoweri Museveni (Among is the second national vice chairperson of the NRM) have previously questioned her wealth, which brings us to the gist of this report: when Museveni asked Anita Among to explain the source of her wealth and how she responded.

In 2024, President Museveni was the chief guest at the launch of Bukedea Teaching Hospital, a multi-billion private facility, that Speaker Anita Among, also the Bukedea District Woman MP, said she built with her money.

Speaker Anita Among, known for her political shrewdness, had named a maternity ward at Bukedea Teaching Hospital after Charlotte Kainerugaba, wife to first son and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba. Among saluted President Museveni for appointing his son the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).

As if out to impress the first family, Among also named a block at her Bukedea Comprehensive SS after Gen MK (initials for Muhoozi Kainerugaba).

The speaker also repeated her statement that she believes in the trinity of Museveni the father, Muhoozi the son, and the ‘holy mother’ – an allusion to a potential Muhoozi presidency in a father-son succession plan. (See Details Here).

When it was his time to speak, Museveni praised Anita Among for being development-minded.

He also revealed that he had queried the speaker on the source of funding for the Bukedea Teaching Hospital – questioning the Anita Among money source.

Among told Museveni that she had used the money from her school to build a teaching hospital. Museveni even praised Anita Among for being a good planner.

“I asked [Speaker Anita Among] where she got the money to build all this. She reminded me that I had helped her with her school. She said that after building the school, students started paying school fees and that money is what she used to build the Bukedea Teaching Hospital,” said President Museveni President Museveni.

“[Speaker Anita Among] is a good planner because the money she got here is the money she used to build the hospital on the other side and also provide quality health care and training of nurses. She has changed the landscape here and created employment for many.”

A few years ago, when the UK sanctioned Anita Among, there was controversy on a house she reportedly owned in London, but she insisted she did not even own a cat, as reported Here.

The controversy on Anita Among’s expensive car and wealth source comes at a time she is facing stiff competition from Minister Norbert Mao for the speaker race.

Norbert Mao insists that Anita Among is an accidental speaker who took the job after Jacob Oulanyah died. Anita Among has since fired back at Norbert Mao. (See Details Here and There).

The Norbert Mao-Anita Among war of words escalated last month during the Kyankwanzi retreat when the minister accused speaker of bad manners and the speaker warned the minister against crossing to the NRM bedroom.
