Gorret Namugga Speaks Out on Reports Linking Her to Kalangala Woman MP Race
National Unity Platform (NUP) politician Gorret Namugga has addressed reports linking her to the upcoming Kalangala District Woman MP by-election.
The seat fell vacant following the death of Woman MP Hellen Nakimuli, who passed away in April this year.
Reports had suggested that some senior figures within NUP were considering backing Namugga for the position after her loss in the January elections, with claims that the party still values her representation and influence.
However, speaking in an interview with a local television station, Namugga said she had not officially expressed interest in contesting for the seat.
“I join the people of Kalangala District in mourning the loss of Hon. Hellen Nakimuli. It was very unfortunate. I have not expressed interest in the position as some reports claim. I believe the power belongs to the people to choose their next Member of Parliament,†she said.
The upcoming by-election is expected to attract strong political attention as parties position themselves to secure the seat.
