Drama in Buhweju as Man Allegedly Attempts to Kill Wife Using Grenade After Domestic Fight
BUHWEJU, Uganda — Police in Buhweju District have arrested a man accused of attempting to kill his wife by detonating a grenade outside their home following a domestic dispute.
The suspect, identified as Twijukye, a resident of Kyankanda Parish in Rwengwe Sub-county, was arrested with the help of local residents and is currently being detained at Bwoga Police Station as investigations continue.
According to Godfrey Tumwebaze, the incident occurred on Monday morning when the suspect allegedly detonated a grenade near his home during a heated domestic altercation with his wife.
Tumwebaze said the woman managed to escape from the scene together with their two-year-old child moments before the explosion. Both reportedly survived the incident unharmed, while the suspect fled shortly after the blast.
Residents say the explosion caused panic in the area, with many neighbors rushing out of their homes in fear as security personnel were alerted to the incident.
Authorities have further revealed that Twijukye is reportedly the son of a former National Resistance Army (NRA) bush war veteran, a detail that has drawn public attention to the case.
Community members claim the suspect had allegedly been in possession of a grenade for some time. Some residents also allege that he could be in possession of a firearm, although police had not officially confirmed the claims by the time of filing this report.
Police later tracked down and arrested the suspect with the assistance of local residents. He remains in custody at Bwoga Police Station pending further investigations.
Security agencies are now investigating how the suspect allegedly obtained the grenade and whether there could be additional illegal weapons in his possession.
Police have urged members of the public to remain calm and to report any individuals suspected of illegally possessing firearms, explosives, or other dangerous weapons.
