President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has arrived in Uganda for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between Uganda and Egypt amid growing regional cooperation on trade, security and Nile Basin issues.

El-Sisi landed at Entebbe International Airport on Tuesday and was received by Rt. Hon. Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda.

The Egyptian leader’s visit comes at a time when Kampala and Cairo are deepening engagement on regional peace, infrastructure and transboundary water cooperation linked to the River Nile.

Uganda and Egypt have in recent years maintained close diplomatic ties, with discussions increasingly focusing on regional integration, electricity generation, climate change and sustainable use of Nile waters.

The visit also follows recent remarks by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni that the Nile Basin’s biggest challenge is underdevelopment and lack of electricity in tropical Africa, rather than colonial-era water-sharing agreements.

Egypt, one of the world’s most water-dependent countries, has long prioritised Nile diplomacy as a key pillar of its foreign policy, especially amid ongoing tensions with Ethiopia over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the Blue Nile.

Officials said El-Sisi is expected to hold high-level bilateral talks with Museveni on regional security, economic cooperation and continental affairs during his stay in Uganda.
